Coast Guard intercepts a boat with 38 undocumented migrants

The Coast Guard and Aruba Police Force intercepted a boat with 38 undocumented individuals at sea last night. The Maritime Operational Center of the Coast Guard received information about a boat coming from the south heading towards Aruba. They immediately sent the Dash 8 aircraft to confirm this and found that there was a large number of people on the boat.

Coast Guard intercepts a suspicious boat with undocumented migrants

Last night, a suspicious boat with undocumented immigrants on board was intercepted by local authorities near Aruba. The Coast Guard immediately directed a patrol boat to the location. The Aruba Police Corps helicopter and the Dash plane were also on site to monitor the boat from the air. A total of 28 people of Venezuelan nationality were arrested on the vessel. All undocumented migrants have been handed over to the Guarda nos Costa and further investigation into this case is ongoing.

Participants of the second session were employees of the Emergency Department (SEH), Intensive Care (IC), Facility Services, Security and Academy of the Horacio Oduber Hospital (HOH). The participants were trained in recognizing indicators of human trafficking (exploitation) in people that come to the SOH for medical assistance.

This month CMMA started with creating awareness on Human Trafficking in the medical sector. Participants in the first session were employees of the Emergency Department (SEH) of the Horacio Oduber Hospital (HOH). They were trained in recognizing possible indicators of exploitation in people that come to the SEH for medical assistance. CMMA thanks the HOH and the SEH for their interest and support.

Recently CMMA received a visit from Amnesty International Netherlands, represented by the Director, Ms. Dagmar Oudshoorn, and the Project Coordinator Refugees and Asylum seekers in Aruba and Curacao, Ms. Tamara de Paula.
