October 18th is the National Day Against Human Trafficking. Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes emphasized that the Government is taking a strong stance on this issue to raise awareness in the community about how to combat this phenomenon.

The CMMA Foundation collaborates with Freeway to launch the movie ‘On the Other Side of the Camera’ (Al otro lado de la cámara)
At the invitation of Our O.L.V. Fatima College (SKOA), the CMMA provided information on the curriculum on human trafficking and migrant smuggling. In addition, human trafficking & technology were discussed.

The Coast Guard and Aruba Police Force intercepted a boat with 38 undocumented individuals at sea last night. The Maritime Operational Center of the Coast Guard received information about a boat coming from the south heading towards Aruba. They immediately sent the Dash 8 aircraft to confirm this and found that there was a large number of people on the boat.
Last night, a suspicious boat with undocumented immigrants on board was intercepted by local authorities near Aruba. The Coast Guard immediately directed a patrol boat to the location. The Aruba Police Corps helicopter and the Dash plane were also on site to monitor the boat from the air. A total of 28 people of Venezuelan nationality were arrested on the vessel. All undocumented migrants have been handed over to the Guarda nos Costa and further investigation into this case is ongoing.
At the invitation of the Maria Goretti College (SKOA), CMMA presented the educational package on human trafficking, migrant smuggling and safe online behavior (No cay den trampa).
the CMMA started with creating awareness on human trafficking and migrant smuggling in the medical sector. Participants of the second session were employees of the Emergency Department (SEH), Intensive Care (IC), Facility Services, Security and Academy of the Horacio Oduber Hospital (HOH). The participants were trained in recognizing indicators of human trafficking (exploitation) in people that come to the SOH for medical assistance.
