The Coordination Center on Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling Aruba (CMMA) is organizing a webinar “The role of technology in human trafficking and smuggling migrants” for professionals. This webinar is aimed at employees who in their daily reality have to do with the theme of Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling.
The US State Department published her TIP report 2023 yesterday and upgraded Aruba to Tier 2!
On June 9th, 2023, the adaptation of the Aruba Penal Code was signed into law. In the new version of the APC the penalty for migrant smuggling (article 2:154 APC) has been raised from a range of 4 to 15 years imprisonment to a range of 6 to 18 years imprisonment and the specification ‘for the purpose of terrorisme’ was added. The penalty for human trafficking (article 2:239 APC) has been raised from a range of 8 to 18 years imprisonment to a range of 12 to 30 years imprisonment and the specifications ‘begging’ and ‘criminal exploitation’ were added.
Recently CMMA received a visit from the minister plenipotentiary of Aruba in Washington DC, Mrs. Joselin Croes, and her staff to get a better insight into the tasks of the CMMA and the role of the National Coordinator on Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling (LCMM) in reporting on the situation concerning human trafficking and migrant smuggling in Aruba.
Recently CMMA met with different departments of Customs Aruba to discuss cooperation in awareness training for employees. Looking forward to make Customs employees our ‘eyes and ears’ in the fight against human trafficking and migrant smuggling.
On June 1st 2023 the representatives of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Coordination Center on Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling Aruba (CMMA) presented the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)

The results of the research into the possible connection between guarantors, human trafficking and migrant smuggling, were presented to the honorable Evelyn Wever Croes, Prime Minister, and Rocco Tjon, Minister of Justice and Social Affairs.
