On May 30st 2023, the Annual Report 2022 of the CMMA was presented to the Minister of Justice and Social Affairs, Mr. Rocco Tjon MBA, by the National Coordinator on Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling, Mrs. Jeannette Richardson Baars MA LLM. The results of the research into the possible connection between guarantors, human trafficking and migrant smuggling, were presented to the honorable Evelyn Wever Croes, Prime Minister, and Rocco Tjon, Minister of Justice and Social Affairs.
The police of Aruba arrested two people yesterday and today on suspicion of human trafficking.
CMMA conducted two days of awareness training with representatives of the Labor Department in Aruba (DPL). Very good discussions on the subject of human trafficking and how to detect the indicators. Looking forward to further cooperation.
CMMA is working on the prevention of human trafficking and migrant smuggling, by presenting an educational package to the government and public school system.
CMMA and Aruba Airport Authority NV held a productive meeting to strengthen collaboration between the two entities in an effort to help prevent human trafficking. Both entities look forward to work on a plan delineating concrete action plans for 2023 and the years ahead.
This (2-day) training was aimed at employees/professionals on the shop floor whose daily activities enable (or may) have to do with (possible) victims of human trafficking. Their input (knowledge and expertise) is important to follow a workable guideline.
As already known, a while ago the special multidisciplinary team was set up to do the preliminary work such as setting up documents and strategic plans to negotiate the re-opening of our borders with Venezuela.
The CMMA was honored today by the visit of the Minister of Justice and his delegation from Curaçao. Presented items were the structure of the institutions in Aruba, the tasks of the CMMA and possibilities for cooperation between the islands.
In the late hours of the night, the RADAR detected a boat in the territorial waters of Aruba. In good cooperation with KPA and the coast guard, the boat named “Ellegua” was intercepted with 7 undocumented migrants.
